Race end, feeling sweaty.

Still sweaty. Trying to cool down in the recovery tent. The top 10 had to wait here for 45 minutes before the presentation.

Top 10 results.  The course was mostly flat road, with some sections of gravel. Fairly fast. I did not take advantage of that. I thought I would be faster based on my recent training. Still, 43:08 is ok. I gave my best.

Curl Curl Parkrun #228

September 9, 2017

I did not feel great during warmup. Knee was a little sore, and a few tight muscles.

It was cold and windy. I kept and even pace to finish in 20:40. That’s slower than most of my training lately.

My rank and performance under “Age Grade” showing the test of  “time vs age”. It gives a % of the World Standard for every age/gender.

Well, not bad…and I am in a way happy to be at No. 6 :-). I did at 20:43, the one who made it to no. 1 is a guy in the  40-44 age category at 17:13, a 3:30 minute difference to my results for a 20+ years age variation.

NSW State Champs

Short Cross Country, 5km

Screenshot_2017-07-03-17-24-43.

A few times in the past I noticed that I perform better in a race if I have done a race or a training prior to the race. I observed that I back up better than if I had rested or was idle. Without much movement,  I feel tight and restricted.  But if I am active and full of zip, I noticed that it sort of “liberated” my hips, freer to move. And yes, that was a good sign!

And by the way, Cross Country is where I often do well. Seriously!….especially if I can do it barefoot! Now, beat me on that!

Another thing,  there is this good runner who has entered. I will have to run very well to beat him. Last year, he beat me by about 15 seconds….His name? …well, i have to keep it a sshhh!…unless I want him to beat me the next time. Just for competition, amigo!

No, I will mention him, as I have named him in my previous post. The course is two laps of 2.5k, on a winding up and down park track.

The race started steady. Chris Dwyer slowly pulled away from me. I was also close to my mate Dennis Wylie, so I knew we were moving well. I thought that Chris is looking good today. I took note of his lead over me. It was around 3/4 seconds from 1km to the 2.5k mark. After the first lap in 10:06, I slowly started to catch Chris. I tried to keep within my self and planned to make a move on one of the downhill sections. Which one will it be? How far out should I push myself and try to hang on? Can I actually catch him?

After another 500m, I got right behind Chris. Time to think of my move. Ok, it’s going to be on a downhill section at 3.5k. About 100m before that point I felt the pace was too slow, so I went slowly past Chris. Just after is a sharp turn around a tree and downhill. I sprinted down that hill hoping to leave Chris behind.  I got a gap on him. For the rest of the race I took a look behind to check the distance. It was around 4 seconds average. I was running scared, but held on for a 3 second win.
